Blog Post Shortcut

In order to write a blog post in MS Word 2007, I had to go through these steps:

  • Open Word
  • Go to the Office menu and choose New
  • Double-click the New Blog Post item in the Blank and Recent Templates page.

This would open an empty post document, but it left a residual empty Word document behind which I had to close.

Tonight I decided that enough was enough. I figured there had to be a way to open the New Blog Post template from the command line without all this hassle, and there was.

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\WINWORD.EXE" /q /t"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Templates\1033\Blog.dotx"

I put this as a shortcut in my Quick Launch tray, gave it the fancy name of "New Blog Post", and even copied the Word New Blog Post image and made it into an icon for the tray. Now it's just one click, and I can type away to my heart's content.
